Calendar of Distributions

Calendar of Distributions#

It is remarkable that a science which began with the consideration of games of chance should have become the most important object of human knowledge.

—Pierre Simon Laplace, Théorie Analytique des Probabilités, 1812

In December 2023, I decided to use the countdown to Christmas 🎄 to explore some probability distributions using Python. So each day, we unwrapped a different distribution –exploring its shape, story, and where it appears in the real world.

From the familiar Binomial distribution to the quirky surprises of the Poisson or Cauchy, these mathematical objects help us to make sense of randomness, uncertainty, and data.
